On the right is a picture which shows a burnt area, but it was only what looked like wetland. Most odd. | ||
| After Granby, CO, US 40 was back through mountains, following the Colorado River for a bit. It also got really desolate with no cell phone service or FM radio. | ||
| There were some pretty hills around Kremling, CO and it was quite dry (still very desolate). | ||
| The highest point seems to have been 'Muddy Pass' at about 6300 feet. Here there was still snow on the ground. However, the sun was quite bright and it didn't feel very chilly (as longs as you were in the sun). | ||
| After that there were some long down hill stretches into the valley below. There was a 'Runaway Truck Ramp' for trucks whose brakes had overheated (and faded or melted). They would go up the ramp to stop. I imagine that is less common now as it would only be a problem with older manual transmissions where you can't downshift without first slowing down (hard to do with no brakes). | ||
| There was a pretty waterfall on the way down and I made a short video so you could hear it. The roaring sound is wind blowing past the microphone, but that is the sound you would hear from the wind past your ears if you listened for it; it was very quiet up there other than that. After that it got pretty flat and desolate again with mountains often in the distance. On the right are some pretty 'painted' hills with pretty colors from erosion. |
