The fire tower was officially closed; in the summer it is staffed by a volunteer who lives up there and welcomes visitors. However, you could go all the way up the tower to the level just below the enclosed section. As we headed down, we noticed a trail off to the side which led to the volunteer's cabin shown below (now closed up). Here is a picture of the entrance to the root cellar behind the cabin.	=0=

The hike itself was not very long, but it did get pretty steep at the start / end.	=0=

In late September I went on a Meetup.com hike up Cat Mountain overseeing Lake George. It was a loop and we chose to take the slow easy climb up so the steep section would be down.	=0=
