After breakfast on Sunday morning we packed up and headed out. Several us started out toward Dismal Falls to check it out and see if it could replace the ever popular Triple Slog trip where participipants trekked up a stream with three small waterfalls, getting amply wet and staying cool in the heat, of course. However, Dismal Falls was the wrong way (further West), so I went on alone to check it out. The ride was very nice as you can see above. The stream parallels the Wilderness Road so that we can drop off the kids whereever is a nice distance and pick them up at the falls. Here is the start of the short path to the falls. Below is the stream at the start of Wilderness Road (possibly a little muddy there). Later Wilderness Road turned into an unpaved road. Dismal Falls, Virginia. =0=

There are plenty of places to park along the way. Here are pictures of the pools and such at the falls. I also made a video of the stream and falls. There are nice pools around the falls and it is a nice rocky stream for a goodly distance. Dismal Falls, Virginia. =0=

The pools were especially pretty with the fall colors, but I don't expect that will be true next July. Instead we might hope for verdant green. From Dismal Falls I went to Salisbury, NC where I visited with Meg and Dale. I had become friends with Meg at the Siddha Yoga Meditation ashram in NY in the 90s and it was great to visit with her and her husband. We tried to have dinner at Gold Miners Cafe in Gold Hill, NC, but it was closed. Doh! Dismal Falls, Virginia. =0=
