Asma had arrived on Thursady and gone part way up the trail just across the street from the KTD to the Overlook Mountain Fire Tower. I didn't find anyone who was inspired to do the trail so I went up after lunch on Sunday. It seems to be quite popular as the parking area was pretty large and pretty full. You can see a map of the trail or the the map my Droid made on the way down with 1,322 feet of elevation. The trail was quite wide, practically a road. There was also the ruins of a hotel first built in 1833 with the fourth incarnation started in 1928 but never finished. You can read more about its history. The view from the fire tower was quite impressive. I want to come back in the spring and fall, though, when the colors will be more interesting. Overlook Mountain Fire Tower Trail, NY. =0=

The fire tower (above) was taller than the one on Hadley Mountain. Overlook mountain is now part of the Catskills and they had a sign shown here noting that you can not camp within 100 feet of a road, trail, or water (but you can camp freely anywhere else there). Cool! Overlook Mountain Fire Tower Trail, NY. =0=
There was also a nice overlook which had a great view (seemed much nicer, perhaps because there weren't the strong (cold) winds. For the last bit of the hike (after the hotel) I had hiked with these two women and their dog (they left the hotel about the same time I did). Overlook Mountain Fire Tower Trail, NY. =0=
