On May 6 I used Continental frequent flier miles to get a free ticket from Portland, OR airport to the Westchester County airport in NY. It is a smaller airport, but close to my old home and with better rates for car rentals. My first leg was on a Continental partner, Northwest. It took me to Cleveland. Northwest flight to Cleveland.
Cleveland airport is pretty cool with an indoor light train to take passengers from gate to gate within the terminal. Cleveland Airport.
Cleveland airport also had a cool fountain shown here which was a large pool with spouts that shoot sort of ropes of water across it. At time it shoots bursts which seem to fly across the pool. One is shown here. but it is not very impressive as a still. Why didn't I take a video? Cleveland Airport.
The next two legs of my flight were on smaller jets by Continental Express which took me to Detroit and then to Westchester County airport. This is the plane that took me from Cleveland to Detroit.. Continental Express flight to Detroit.
There were only three seats across, two on the right and one on the left of the aisle. There was only one steward for the flight and about 40 seats. I took a similar plane to Westchester county but there were only five passengers. When it came time to board, they called me by name as the other two paying passengers were already aboard. Continental Express plane.
At Westchester County airport there was not the usual elevated gate, but instead a portable stairway (for the five passengers and the three crew). It is a smaller airport. Westchester County Airport.
The airport terminal in Westchester County is a modern terminal with all the usual facilities. Westchester County Airport.
The next day, Wednesday, May 7, 2003, ABF delivered a tractor trailer to the field just opposite my unit. Previously I had posted a picture of my unit when it was full. It was most fortunate that there was space close to my unit for the trailer. .
In a day and half I was able to load up the front 4.5 feet of the trailer (five minimum so there was little reason to use less space). I took two trips to the local Goodwill to get rid of smaller stuff that I knew I wouldn't be needing. I left the larger stuff in the unit for a bigger car and packed still more to Portland as I had the space. Here is the inside of the trailer with the bulkheads put up. The bulkheads are really just load bars with metal fence and cardboard attached. Guardian Storage in Hopewell Junction, NY.
ABF picked up the trailer at 4PM on Thursday. Boy was I sore from the moving all that stuff. Friday evening David came back from school for a weekend visit and we emptied out the unit using his car, a Honda Accord station wagon. Cool! Packed ABF trailer.
While visiting in NY, I stayed with my former wife, Barbara, in Yorktown, NY in David's old room. Barbara is selling the house in Yorktown and moving to a smaller house close to where she is working now that Jay is graduating from High School. As a result, she is getting rid of lots of stuff. So I went to the basement and said goodbye to the workbench that I build from scrap lumber in Maryland. It was a nice work bench. Workbench.
Here is a picture of the two saw horses that I had built from scrap lumber in Maryland. They were nice saw horses and suprisingly strong. Saw horses.
