| Here is the deck that I replaced in about 1983. It had been built with
untreated lumber and was pretty badly rotted after about ten years. I built
the same deck but using treated lumber. 20 years later and it is still in pretty
good shape (30 year warranty on the lumber). |
 |
| I used some of the lumber that wasn't badly rotted in the old deck to build
various shelves and such including these shelves in the back basement area. |
 |
| For the weekend when David visited, I slept on the sofa in the living
room. No big deal after you have slept in your car for over a year. On Sunday
I helped David pack his car. He took most of stuff back with him to Albany
to make his mom's move easier. Here is a picture of him resting. Jay
was feeling shy and wouldn't let me get a picture of him. |

| On Monday I visited the ashram in S. Fallsburg, NY. There were numerous
changes, the most obvious of which is that one of the three campuses as
no longer a part of Syda Yoga. It had been sold to a neighboring
Jewish religious retreat organization that was expanding. |
 |
| Here is a picture of the meeting hall for the Jewish religious organization
that seemed to be expanding every year. It is located on the grounds of the
now defunct Deville Hotel in S. Fallsburg, NY. |
 |
| Syda Yoga normally had signs up asking that people not take pictures, but
in the transition, the gate was open (as the new owners were renovating
sections) and no such signs. I tool pictures of the main building of the
old hotel where I did a lot different work over the years, moving furniture
and picking up trash and such. It also had a really large dorm room which
is where I normally stayed on my various weekend visits over the years. |
 |
| Here is the building previously known as Devi that was used as dorm rooms
when things got crowded during the summer. In the summer of 1993 I stayed in
Devi for about 10 weeks. |
 |
| On my return on Tuesday, I had a morning flight of Westchester county airport
flying to Boston. It was a Continental Connect flight offered by CommutAir.
It was on the turboprop plane shown here. It was one of the smaller
planes I have ever flown on. |
 |
| There was only one seat on each side of the aisle. The crew was just
a pilot and co-pilot with no service during the admittedly short flight. They
flew us into Boston. From there I took a regular Continental Express flight
right back to Newark, NJ (hardly an hour drive from Westchester County airport). |
 |
| The pilot of the CommutAir flight was a young woman (about 30 would be
my guess). I thought that was cool. My flight out of Newark was a normal
Continental flight and flew directly to Portland, OR. |
 |
| On May 21 I got a call from Jason at Glacier, a concrete mixing company.
I had applied with them about six weeks earlier, but hadn't heard anything
back. |
 |
| The interview went pretty well with me avoiding the question of what I did
in NY (I talked about driving trucks and buses for the ashram while not mentioning
the programming I did for Verizon). The training for people without mixer experience
but who already have a CDL takes one to two weeks. They had a couple of positions
but some of the applicants had mixer experience. |
 |
| Later in the week (22nd), I had an interview with Randy at Woodfeathers. I had
applied with them on Apr 4, but hadn't heard anything back. I saw their ad and
Randy set up the interview. The interview went OK. I also put classified ads
in the local papers for work as a handyman or computer repair (different ads). |
