As I approached North Carolina and got into the Appalachian Mountains proper, the road got really winding up and down hills. The left is a picture down the hill I had just climbed to the border to North Carolina (right) where the roads got even narrower and somewhat rough. Winding US Route 129 in TN (close to NC). Entrance to North Carolina on 129.
There seem to be numerous lesser hydroelectric dams in the Tennessee Valley run by the TVA. Here are three pictures of one such dam in North Carolina from above and then down below. The reservoir extends on into Tennessee (or so it seemed to me). Hydoelectric Damn in NC. Hydroelectric plant in NC.
The hills in North Carolina neighboring Tennessee were quite beautiful with the fall colors and fog coloring them in the distance. In North Carolina I switched to US Rt 19 South and that took me into Georgia. I found the Southlake Bally's south of Atlanta and showered. However, it was early evening so I pressed on taking US Rt 47 on into Florida. Damn and plant from below. Hills in fog in NC.
