At SUUSI 2010 I did a Nature Trip each morning (when it was cool). I was real excited to get a good start and did an early morning 'Silent Walk' starting at a nearby park, Wildwood, in the ravine that splits the two parts of Radford, VA. It had been pretty much abandoned for a while, but lately trails and such were being developed. We took a van to the park (above). | =0= |
There was a main trail through the park which was suitable for biking and such as well as numerous smaller trails good for hiking. As it was a silent walk, we split up and wandered as we liked. The 'Silent Walk' lasted until 8:15AM but I had signed up for another hike that started at 8AM (and we were asked to arrive fifteen minutes early for events). Fortunately it was only a mile walk from Wildwood Park to Radford University. The highway ran across the ravine and there was a bike trail under the highway (US 11) which ran to the river (New River) where there was also a bike trail. | =0= |

I walked along the bike trial for a bit and made this video there. Then I headed back to Radford University and got to the next hike just in time. | =0= |
The next hike was in the Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve. It was a gentle climb to the peak as the trail went back and forth up the side. Below is a fungus on a dead log. I used my zoom (it was well off the trail), but I guess I didn't hold the camera very still. | =0= |

At the peak there was a lot of fog (and even a light misty rain) so the view was not as good as it could have been. | =0= |

On the return I took this picture of a two inch salamander that had been on the trail. | =0= |
The dorm that Eric and I stayed in, Perry Hall, was air conditioned and just off the quad where community gatherings were held in the afternoon (shown here). | =0= |
