Just across from the Blue Mosque is the Haga Sophia, originally a church, then a Mosquem now a museum. It is about 1500 years old and over the centuries there has been a problem with it sinking and settling due to its massive weight. As a result, it has been butressed many times over the centuries making it hard to see the shape of the original building. | ![]() |

The interior of the Haga Sophia is also quite beautiful with really massive columns, arches, and, of course, the main dome. From one window there was an impressive view of the Blue Mosque. | ![]() |

Around a few places (but not many considering the size of the place) there were tile murals of Jesus and such. It is a little surprising that any survived as this had been a Mosque, too, and the Koran forbids images / pictures of people or animals (for fear we might come to worship the image). There was also one particular column which had a marble stone which you could ouch to make a wish come true. | ![]() |
