On May 12, 2009, I set off for Hawaii. Lake Elsinore is pretty far from most parts of LA, but my flight wasn't until 3PM, so I got a ride in with James on his way to work and he went a few blocks out of his way to drop me off at Disneyland (on Katrella). I wanted to catch a bus in toward LA, but it turned out I needed walk through Disneyland to get there (above). Then I took the 460 bus (above and here) to Norwalk Metro Train Station (below) and the Green Line to LAX. There was a free shuttle bus to get me to that correct terminal. Total fare was $2.50, which is way better than usual. Sometimes the ground transportation to and from the air fare can be as much as or more than the air fare (depending on the suburbs). Go figure. I was visiting Hawaii to talk to Carbon Diversion, Inc. (CDI) about a job possibility and they provided me with a place to stay while I visited. The visit was suggested by James as he knew they could use a strong computer person and he knew I was foot loose and fancy free. He and Szaron had been out there a couple of months prior as they tried to get him to join them (he was family). Cheyenne (below) is James' nephew and met me at the airport. It turns out his cousin, Michelle (and James's niece) was arriving that day from Chico, CA. After they met me at the airport, we went out for Thai food. Then they dropped me off at the corporate housing (also above). It was previously military housing and has four bedrooms, very solidly built and well furnished. Carl is retired from GM and has been staying there since January. The next morning I rode in with Carl, to the CDI headquarters. They are doing some way cool stuff, but I signed a non disclosure agreement, so I recommend you visit their site at http://carbondiversionworldwide.com as they have a good overview of what Carbon Diversion does without disclosing any confidential information. I hung out at CDI in the morning and was scheduled to talk to Michael in the afternoon as Michael had appointments for the morning. However, Michael's 9AM appointment was late and so he asked me into his office. He surprised me by telling me to tell him a story (that is not your usual job interview question). So, I told him about being a programmer for over thirty years and then semi-retiring, travelling, being a day laborer for a year and half, etc.. We talked a little about what they were doing and then he asked me what it would take for me to come work for CDI. I said I was quite interested but that I would think about it and let him know tomorrow. My cousin, Mary, is living in Hawaii and working as a nurse for the blood bank. They are open seven days a week and her schedule varies. She was off that day and the next, and we met for lunch and then went hiking with Cheyenne and Michelle who were carless (until Cheyenne could get a new starter for his truck. We picked them up at his house on the North shore and they Cheyenne led us to a nice trail in the area (at the end of the road shown below). Michael.
I never got a picture of Mike so the picture above is from the youTube video. I didn't get a picture of Dave, the chief engineer (to build stuff) either and pulled his picture from the video, too. Michael.
