On October 16, 2001, I took SR 37 South to US Rt 150 East to
US Rt 27 South and US Rt 70 East to Knoxville, TN. I stayed the night in the
parking lot of the Bally's there. I continued on US Rt 70 East to US Rt 129
South. The land south of Knoxville is very pretty with pasture land and
forests (left). I stopped at a Walmart to get my dinner (Patio Mexican,
88 cents) and couldn't resist getting a picture of this hill in the distance
(Walmart is to the right of the picture). |

There were also sections which were clear cut and starkly
beautiful, but with the winding and narrow roads I could never stop safely
to take a picture (and the scenic overlooks weren't of the clear cut sections).
On the left is a scenic river/reservoir covered with fog. The roads got really
narrow and winding as I got into the national preserves with the roads following
the lay of the land and well banked rather than the cut straight through which
is common now. |

US Rt 129 parallels a river which had been damned at a couple
of points for electric power and looked more like a lake. It was a very
pretty drive, especially with the fall colors. The picture on the right
had interesting lighting with the clouds. |
