Lamala gave us teachings three times each day in the shrine room set up in Discovery. The first was in the morning from 10:30AM to 12 noon. The morning teachings each discussed a chapter from his book 'Heartfelt Advice'. I made a short video of these teachings along with another. After the AM and PM teachings, Lamala would often have us sing a song as in this video. His teachings and the discussions provided me with some insights which I wrote up in separate pages. | =0= |
This year there were a little fewer people at the retreat than in previous years and the shrine room was set up sideways so that the Tonga (shown here) was to our left rather than to Lamala's right. The afternoon teachings were from 4PM to 6PM and covered a Tibetan text which we had used in prevoius retreats (but different sections and they are quite extensive). There were also less formal teachings in the evening after the Chenrezik chant from 7:30PM to 9PM. Toward the end we do the chant 'Om Mane Pine Hung' as in this video. | =0= |
Before each of the formal AM and PM teachings we started with a chant (you can hear a small section. There is also a short video of Lamala and the more formal teaching from the Tibetan text. He would end the teachings with a question and answer sessions shown below with Julianne, Sue, Danna, and Guy asking a question. There is also John, Dave, Michael (asking question) and Ray. Just before leaving Lamala oftens leads in a chorus of 'Sarva Mangalam's as in this video. | =0= |

One morning there was a cool rupa (statue) of Tara on Lamala's pecha desk (shown here) which was to later join Tiffany's puja at home. Larry and Beth were central to organizing the retreat (my thanks to them) and are shown below with Beth asking a question. Next to that is Eric, a lawyer, also asking a question. I think he was only able to attend the Thursday PM teaching. | =0= |

Here is Julianne (Vicki's sister) asking a question. Lamala gave each participant a ribbon from another Rinpoche (precious teacher) who I didn't recognize by name. He also gave us a card with pictures of him. I made a sort of puja from them with the texts I had (below). At the last teaching, he introduced us to a chant in sanskrit taking refuge in the three jewels, the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. My limited knowledge of sanskrit suggests the chant 'Namo Dharmaya' could be interpreted as I honor the inner Buddha (or perhaps inner self). I made a video with the chant as well as sound track from the video. The tune repeats after two lines so you have to do six lines for a complete set. At the very end, Lamala blessed each participant as we chanted. | =0= |

Above are pictures of Lamala blessing David and then me (taken by brother, Michael). I made a short video of Guy getting blessed; Guy let me sneak ahead of him in the line so that Mike could get my picture and then I could get a picture of Michael. Here is Lamala and Chuck (the truck driver). | =0= |
My brother Michael normally takes the last place in the line. I took this picture of him with Lamala. | =0= |
