We then went down below the main section and there was another impressive chapel as shown below. | ![]() |

Here is the organ and organ pipes for this lower chapel. We went to the National Cathedral first as we knew that it closed at 5:30PM and expected that the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Alexandria, VA would be open later. However, the memorial (below) actually closed earlier at 4PM. Doh! | ![]() |
We got to the Washington Masonic Memorial at about 3:15PM, after the last tour of the tower (via elevator and with fee charged) was at 3PM. Doh! While the National Cathedral was done mostly in limestone which is easy to work with and hardens as it ages (at leat it is purported to). The Masonic Memorial was mostly in granite as you can see here and below. There are lots of monuments to our first President, but there are also memorials to the numerous other Presidents and other founding fathers who were Masons. It is pretty interesting. | ![]() |

There was an impressive hall shown above, here and below with murals on each wall behind the columns (making it hard to get a good picture of the mural). The ceiling was also decorated. | ![]() |
