Grafton Peace Pagoda, NY. =0= Guy and Asma. =0=
Before dropping off Guy and Asma at the airport on Monday afternoon, we went by the Grafton Peace Pagoda which I had visited previously with Jay. We took the quiet path up instead of the driveway. There were several nice cairns (stacked stones). The land was given for the peace pagoda in 1983 and the construction was completed in 1993. Grafton Peace Pagoda, NY. =0=

As you circumambulate the pagoda/stupa there are cool pictures from the Buddhas life (above). We visited in November and there were signs asking that we enter through the back where there was a little shrine (shown here) which was heated. It was the living area for the Zen Buddhist nun, Jun San, who is central to the peace pagoda. We also were able to visit the main shrine room, but it was unheated. Jun San, it seems, had left that morning for a peace walk in California at 6:23AM (according to her calendar. I have heard that during the winter she normally heads to warmer climes and someone else stays at the shrine. Grafton Peace Pagoda, NY. =0=

In mid November I went on a hike with the Hiking M8s (Mates) on Meetup.com. We met at the Middleburgh, NY community pool parking lot which is also a park and ride. There were 11 of us and we went took two cars to a trail head (above). The trail we took, Long Path, goes all the way to NYC and continued on to the northeast from the parking lot (above), but we started out along a road for a bit and then turned off onto a pretty wide trail suitable for snowmobiles and ATVs.
