We stopped and had lunch and the Hotel Maya Deluxe on the way. It was about 50 yards off the highway on a narrow road (alley by U.S. standards). Here are pictures of the group I had lunch with, John, Patty, Dawa, Guy, (me), Yolanda and Valerie. It was good and quite inexpensive. My lunch of egg fried rice and mineral water was about $2.50 with tip. | =0= |

The country got more hilly as we went north, but there was still a lot of construction. The roads we travelled were quite narrow and in many cases winding as well. | =0= |

One thing I haven't mentioned previously is that with such mixed traffic, passing is quite routine making the lane divisions almost superfluous. Drivers honk their horns routinely, but it is more like a polite 'here I am' rather an angry blare 'got out of my way'. I think the difference is that they are very brief beeps rather than prolonged blares. However, they are a constant part of the traffic noise. We also started seeing more people carrying loads on their heads, especially women as below. | =0= |
