We then drove to visit the nun, Tenzin Palma, who is most famous from the book 'Cave in the Snow'. There aren't many Tibetan nunneries (the first one opened about twenty years ago) and they struggle more than most monasteries. They did have a lovely shrine at Dongyu Garsal Ling Nunnery. | ![]() |

The floor of their shrine was being renovated and so there were tarps above the floor to preserve the ceiling and other important relics. Above is a section of ceiling that could be seen where the tarp was down. Here is their Buddha under wrap through a hole in the tarp (with very poor light as a result). They have 73 nuns at this nunnery and it has a nice functional style. | ![]() |

We recieved the blessings of Tenzin Palma and she spoke with us about the situation with Tibetan nuns and the subtle discrimination of Tibetans against women in Buddhism. I made a short video of her talking. She is English and a most lovely person. She mentioned a Tibetan woman, Khandro-la Rinpochi, who is an oracle to the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala and gave us her contact information, but we were not able to set up a time to see her. Below is Tenzin Palma with Patty and Karen, Yolanda, Maureen, Valerie and Gabrielle. | ![]() |
