Above is a picture of the Internet Cafe which is just a few yards from the Tara Guest House. In the morning it is not so busy and I got very good access speeds. I would check my email while my pictures and such uploaded. The main route through the Tibetan Camp had a lot of digging and mud these few days with the drill shown here making quite a racket. Here is a video of traffic just outside the camp. | =0= |
At about noon we loaded four per three wheeled cab and were off to Delhi University to hear the Dalai Lama. I was able to ride up front and made this video. If you notice in this picture there are red wires above the ignition switch. That is his started switch, touching the wires. Yikes! Looks like a good way to get a bite if you are careful with the loose wires. We went to one entrance, but were turned away by security. Non students were required to enter on the far side. As we walked I saw the sign for their Guest House. Much like Turkey it seems. | =0= |

Once we were in the gate, there was a fair walk on their very nice campus. A student shown here was kind enough to walk us around to the correct gate and on to the Conference Center where the Dalai Lama was to speak. We got there about 12:45PM and were told that they would open the gates at 1:30PM. They actually started letting people into the security check about 1:15PM. Below is Derek getting frisked (they had metal detectors which always went off and you always carried everything with you through and then got frisked). Men and women were processed separately and there were more women entrants. | =0= |

Above is the entry to the confernce center where the Dalai Lama spoke. Derek went ahead and got us great seats. I asked another attendee to take our picture and he cnetered on me (of course). As as 'Where's Waldo' exercise, can you find Valerie, John, Dawa, Maureen, Derek, Yolanda, Gabrielle, Brian, Guy, and Patty? The real challenge is finding Chuck. He got separated from the group and when he went through they asked for his invitation (which they didn't ask of any of us) and he was turned away. Doh! It was a really great talk which I will wrote about in a rambling tale (all words and no pictures), but they asked that we not take pictures. I delayed until the very end when he was talking to the Tibetan students that were along the front on the floor. After that we all filed out for a tea. | =0= |
