The next morning we left promptly for Delhi, departing at 5:30AM. The roads started out as the narrow winding roads along the hillsides with the added twist that there were hundreds of trucks carrying goods in each direction making for slow going as there was the constant need to pass slow moving trucks and opposing traffic making it difficult. Then we made it out of the Himalayas where passing was easier (multiple lanes in each direction) and we made good progress. We saw the third truck which had toppled over (but the first one where I had my camera out in time), this one carrying a load of sand (making it particularly top heavy, a problem I see with these very standard trucks in India). It seems to have swerved to avoid a cow (unsuccessfully). Dawa and Derek saw a crushed person, but I missed that, likely a pedestrian. The coutryside got very flat with lots of wheat fields while the towns were quite crowded. Return to Delhi, India. =0=
We stopped for lunch at the Marchi restaurant where we had had breakfast on our way out. Below are Chuck, Maureen, Sue, Patty and Guy and Dawa, Ozzie, Gabrielle, Karen, and Elena. Marchi, India. =0=

I also noted that as we got closer to Delhi three wheeled cabs became more common, but mostly painted black (versus the green and yellow paint in Delhi proper) and there was a super-sized version which held more passengers (but as we were passing at about 100 kph (or 70mph) it was hard to get a good picture. We returned to the Tara Guest House, but Derek and I were in a different room, just down the hall from where we were previously (405 instead of 409). The renovations had made good progess and things were pretty neat, but there was a strong smell of varnish on the moldings and stair bannisters. I also went up to the roof (just one flight up from our room) and there was a tremendous view. The traffice over the river was impressive so I made another video. Here is the view from our bathroom. I often wash my underweat when I shower and have found that leaving it on a hangar outside the window works well, but the amount of bird droppings made me cautious here. There were numerous pigeons roosting around the ledges you can see. There also seems to be a large water tank on the roof (below). Tara Guest House View. =0=
