Nikki really wanted to visit Campo de Fiori as she had read about it in one of her favorite books. The street sign (as with many European cities, the street signs are up one the sdies of the buildings) and the market there are shown above. Here is Nikki under the portal that she was interested in. After that we we went by Vittorio Emanuele II Monument, mostly becuase it was along the way. It is shown below. These pictures were taken by Nikki. | =0= |

It had some nice fountains and we got confused as we were headed to the Trevi Fountain. There is a tradition that if you throw a certain number of coins of your shoulder into the fountain it will impact your love life (you will meet the love of your life, your currnet love will last, etc.). Nikki through coins into this fountain by mistake, but it was odd as there weren't any other coins (for such a famous fountain), but then we realized it was the wrong fountain. Doh! We then continued on to the St. Marco Bassilica, but it was a Monday and was closed as were many stores and shops on Mondays (sort of an extended weekend for those places which were open on Saturday). Bummer. We imagined how nice it would be if tours could skip Sundays and Mondays (not really possible). Oh well. We did finally make it to Trevi Fountain, shown below, and Nikki was able to throw her coins in (and there were lots of other coins in the fountain). These pictures were taken by Nikki except for the one of the left above and the one on the right below which I took with her camera. | =0= |

From the Trevi Fountain (above) we headed started heading back to the hotel. Along the way to the subway, we saw a really cute three wheeled truck. In Korea in 1978 there had been lots of little trucks like this, but they were all old. The newer ones were larger. In 1978 they were in Rome, too, but I am told they don't make them in Korea any more. There is another picture of a three wheeled truck in Florence, too. We took the subway back to the Vatican (as we were tired and it was a long walk back and also because we wanted to try it out). The subway was very nice (it is pretty new) and then we took the bus back to our hotel. Out hotel was a couple of blocks off the bus route and we missed the stop. It was hot and got pretty stressful. We only got back with the help of a driver who knew where our hotel was. | =0= |
