The next to arrive were Amy and Jack. They were a little delayed and we were hungry so started dinner without them, but there was plenty when they arrived. Amy (shown here) is my cousin (Vinson's sister).
She and Jack are retired history professors outside of Providence, RI, though Jack is still travelling and giving lectures/speaking. Here is Jack.
Amy confessed that when she was a mom she loved to nibble on baby's necks, tummies. and toes. You can see that this carried over to her daughter Colleen and Caitlin shown here and below. Poor Caitlin; you can see how she suffers so. ;-)
I had noticed that just off the living room Vinson had a really fancy cooler with a refrigerator light (which I thought a little odd, myself, but who am I to judge). However, on further investigation it turns out that this cooler was modified to be a bread dough riser for the phenomenal sour dough bread that Vinson bakes.
His loaves are pretty large. He let this loaf rise too long and so it fell when he moved it to the oven. However, there was still no lack of takers to help eat it. I guess family just sticks together and we all toughed it out...
Last to arrive that evening was my cousin Martin (shown here) and Bev. He was the only actual Turner in the group being the son of Uncle Felix. Helle was a bit confused by the relationships between us all (hard to imagine how that could be). Of course my mom was the most difficult to explain as her mom had died in giving birth to my mom and Dad Newkirk had not felt up to taking care of a baby. Mom Turner (my grandma) had taught Dad Newkirk when she had been a school teacher (before she married and settled down as was the custom at the time) and offered to take care of the baby, my mom.
Here is Bev sitting at the kitchen table. The window in the background leads out to the sun room.
Maggie negotiated a deal with Catherine to get the latest Harry Potter book, but then decided to read all the previous books before finishing the latest one. So, much of the time Maggie was off by herself reading.
Under the tree just beyond the tables set up for meals was a swing that was enjoyed by all (Ava was on it previously). Here are Colleen and Caitlin on the swing. I made a short video (5 second long, perhaps 40 second download) of them on the swing, but forgot that it is hard to rotate video like I routinely do pictures. Hope you don't get a crick in your neck....
There was also a smaller swing, here being enjoyed by Andrea.
Here is Eva pushing Andrea in the baby swing. |
