At the heart of the historic area is the first church in Hawaii, Kawaiahao Church, shown here and below. It was founded by Hiram Bingham with his first sermon in 1820 and dedicated after his departure in 1842. Lunalilo was the first democratically elected king in Hawaii and chose to be buried in the cemetary at this church (rather than in the traditional royal cemetary) to close to the people with a memorial shown above. | =0= |

Behind the church are the historic buildings associated with the church. They have a museum and give tours of the buildings. Below is an early printing press. They translated the bible and other important books and printed them. | =0= |
