Just before the end of June, we had a short term visitor staying at out apartment, John, shown here. Below is Sedrick, Bob's youngest son, at Squeezeplay, along with Clifford, one of Sedrick's friends who is working there. | ![]() |

As of the first of July (2009) we got a new roommate, Brian, shown here. He is a sailor (just off a sub) and is scheduled to be here a year. Also in this picture (on the left) is Chris, his friend from the sub who is just getting out (stayed with us for a week on his terminal leave before returning to Minnesota). Brian has been teaching himself to play the guitar and is quite good I am told. The Marco Polo has a glassed in secure entrance at the the front but is open on the back to the courtyard shown below. As you walk into the courtyard, the pool is on the left (also below). | ![]() |

Brian had a set of furniture and so asked that his room be unfurnished. That left Carol shuffling furniture as her storage area was all full. Her son, Malcolm (shown here), did most of the shuffling and I helped with some of the heavier pieces. At the Marco Polo a large percentage of the residents are senior citizens and they have a lot of rules about what is permissable. The security guards write up a lot of violations and there was a period of a few days where I had been written up for using the pool even though I was not a registered guest, the complaint threatened to cite me for 'trespass'. I stopped using the pool until that was resolved, but there is a park behind the Marco Polo. At the end of the courtyard above there is a narrow path (below) behind the pool which leads to a locked gate to the park (ten foot fence between the park and the Marco Polo). There is a small canal (from the main canal separating off Waikiki) which splits the park and then goes through the Marco Polo (between the parking building and the main building) and beyond. The park section of that canal is shown below along with the little bridge on the Marco Polo foot path which crosses the canal. | ![]() |

Here is a picture of the canal as it goes behind the pool and angles over to the parking building. For those few days that I was 'banned' from the pool, I used the park to read and enjoy the weather.... | ![]() |
