That Saturday was the first Saturday of the month when the local sufi (Universal Dances of Peace) dances at the school shown here and above, the Niu Valley Middle School. It was on the far end of the island (East shore) and was a 45 minute or so drive. It was a great group and the school is in a beautiful location, surrounded by lovely mountains. There were only two first Saturdays while I was in Hawaii, the second being July 4th. They had a smaller group that evening, but it was still a very sweet group (perhaps sweeter as those attending might be more devoted). After I moved to Marco Polo, sufi dance was much closer. | ![]() |

After the 4th of July, I finally got myself and gear and started doing the hikes that my cousin, Mary, had shown me (her knee is giving her trouble and she wasn't able to do hikes). First off I visited Moanalua Valley Park which was at the start of a nice trail, the Kamananui Valley Road. This was apparently an old road which is now a hiking trail. If you look closely at the picture below on the left, you can see that it was originally a one lane road with paving stones and a curb (also stones). Cool! | ![]() |
