Toward the end of September I took James by the DMV (shown above) to get his learner's permit. He had gotten it in High School, but never really had access to a car (or wanted the expense of one) and so let it lapse. I will need to move my driver's license back to NY, but I have a class A CDL (can drive tractor trailers along with buses and such) and have to retake the written test which is a non-trivial series of tests. I had kept my haz-mat endorsement, but let that lapse when they started requiring background checks (and that was a HARD test). The only real queue was to get to the information desk where James was given a number and assigned to an electronic queue. There weren't many people in then and it went fast. James passed his written test so now we can start letting him practrice driving. DMV, Albany, NY. =0=

Above and here are pictures of the Albany Armory. It is a way cool old building. My new home is just a couple of miles from the main Albany public branch (and a wonderful bike ride) which is right next to the Armory (but in a quite ordinary building) and there are branches just one mile and a half mile from my home. Cool! Albany Armory. =0=

I was also able to attend a satsang (program) with the tri-state Prison Project sevites (volunteers). There were over twenty at the meeting (a large turn out) possibly because Madhu was visiting from California. I had worked with several of these people a decade ago when I was visiting prisons in NY. It was great to see them all again including a surprise of seeing Al, just five weeks out of prison after almost 30 years in prison. He had been such a great light in Greenhaven it was hard to imagine why he was in prison, but he had no complaints. The meeting was at the Manhattan ashram shown here (the small building between the two larger buildings). It is a great section of NYC, just a block from the fine old church shown above. I had visited there a few times, but parking was really awful this time. I finally gave up and tried the risky parking above and got a $115 ticket. Oh well. I found out where the closest parking garage is (89th) and will try that if parking is so bad in the future. NYC Siddha Yoga Ashram. =0=

James, my son (above), invited me to go to a concert Friday evening, October 2, 2009, with 'They Might Be Giants' at the Egg, a local cultural center, shown here in a picture I found on the web. We had dinner at Friendly's before hand and after James' friend, Brian (above), got off work. He had gone to school with James and they have been friends since about 2004. He was also an English major and has been working for the NY State Department of Taxation for about six months. James is still unemployeed and collecting unemployment insurance but has taken several tests to get a NY state job and is hoping a job will come up soon. The Egg, Albany, NY.

The opening performance was Peter and Zoe Stampfel (a father and daughter pair shown here) who we did not like so well. Peter and Zoe Stampfel. =0=
We enjoyed 'They Might Be Giants', shown here, much better. I made couple of videos (first and second), but the sound was too loud for my camera. Probably I could adjust it to not be overwhelmed by the volume, but I couldn't hear the results to make the adjustments. What to do? They Might Be Giants. =0=
