In November, Stephanie a group to do Cat and Thomas Mountain. She has not ussually put limits on how many can attend her hikes and quite a lot signed up with one or maybe two expressing concern that there might be too many. I offered that if there were a lot I would be happy to lead a second group. Well there were 18 or so and it turned out I led the faster group. The only problem is that a couple of new hikers joined Stephanie and borrowed stuff as they weren't adequately dressed for the cold. They managed to have cars to get them back but weren't able to return what the borrowed. Not a problem but a little stress for me (and perhaps for Stephanie). | =0= |

The Commercehub team are surprisingly talented. A couple of weeks after I got my new(ish) Fuji Pulsar fixed up, it was stolen from the garage one niget. I was so demoralized. I had invested a good amount of time and money getting and installing the auxillary parts. After a couple of weeks I visited Albany Bike Rescue and picked up this Ross Adventurer. Over the next month I fixed it up with fnders, rack, lights, etc.. I really like my Ross, but still miss the Fuji Pulsar. We do keep the garage locked now. At Commercehub they haver really nice holiday parties. This year after dinner the Commercehub band played (below), all employees and they were great. | =0= |

At the very end of December we got our first real snow of the season. I was heading to work and merging onto I787 in the combined entrance / exit lane with an 18 wheeler right next to me (on my left) and signalling right to exit as I was entering. Yikes! There were several cars behind me and the road was clear in front of us. Everyone was going a moderate pace, about 20 or 30 miles an hour, with the roads just wet in the lanes but about a half inch of slush between the tire lanes. I decided to accelarate and was next to the tractor part as he changed lanes into my lane. There were about four to six inches of slush in the shoulder and I moved over there rather getting hit, but lost control as I passed the 18 wheeler. I ended up exactly in front of the 18 wheeler and was hit on the driver's side. It was a pretty slow moving collission (we were both going about the same speed) and no injuries. The air bags didn't deploy, but the damages still come to about $4,000. Yikes. In early January I was able to volunteer at the Regional Food Bank. There are regular volunteer opportunites there on the third Thursday in the evening, but that is when I help out with a chanting and meditation program at Green Hanven CI (prison). It was so nice to be able to help out at the Food Bank. This time we were able to work in the pack room where they used a conveyor belt and I was picking out about a dozen categories of food to box up. Here is a short video of the belt during a quiet stretch. It was not as bad it might have been as it returned any items I missed a few minutes later. Very fun. | =0= |
